Meet Simon Beaton BSc, PGCE (DipTchg)

After graduating and completing his PGCE Simon taught in Sevenoaks, Kent for 1 year before heading off with Michele to see the World.  Cyprus was the first part of the planned journey. There Simon taught Chemistry and Biology to ‘A’ Level or what is now known as Year 13. The planned 3 years stretched to 13 by which time Simon had become Deputy Headmaster and with Michele had 3 daughters.

A chance conversation with Kiwi friend gave them the idea of moving on, and in 1992 Simon and Michele visited New Zealand. One year later they moved to Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty and set up home.

Prior to leaving Cyprus, Simon had written a successful Geography-Economics program which looked at economic and developmental factors for almost every country in the World. Geoscan, as it was called was a success being widely used in UK schools. On arriving in New Zealand Simon had a career change and looked at developing educational software on a full-time basis.

The need for an income prevented this idea from becoming reality and so Simon found himself working for an insurance business. To his surprise he found he had a talent for helping business owners with risk management and strategic planning. By 1996, he owned his own business. During this time as Michele’s business grew he found himself helping out more and more.

In March 2010 Simon sold his business in order to spend more time in Learning Journeys.
